Babajob is a unique social networking and job startup with the goal of enabling all people - importantly including those who work in the informal sector - to find better jobs and connect together in new meaningful ways. Our ambitions are grand - to build the most used web and mobile based social networking and job site in India and hopefully worldwide. We are looking to grow our development team with truly stellar talent, who believe in the transformative power of software on society and are incredibly passionate about their work. This is not a dev shop job, but one where you will be expected to lead and shape this company and own significant technical elements that will be key to our success. Given that we are a young start-up, you will also be called upon to many things we cannot predict now and will likely need to wear many hats as we grow our organization.
We currently are a small team of 6 people who hail from top universities in the States and the IITs with extensive experience working for global technology companies in the US and India, along with an incredible operations team of 9 folks.

Technical positions
From a technical standpoint, we are a web 2.0 style company and are looking for developers who excel in these technologies. We need people who know how to structure and manage 50,000 lines of Jscript and how those client side scripts securely connect to our AJAX services and those of others such as google maps, SMS, payment and ad serving services. We need people who can build scalable web server farms, with front-end web servers speaking reliably to backend SQL databases. We need developers and designers who love creating truly eye-popping and elegantly usable user interfaces in CSS and HTML.
Senior Developer in Web Technologies (multiple positions available)
Ideally we are also looking for web developer candidates who:
- Have over 5 years professional experience coding in web technologies.
- Have worked in large, successful web businesses in India e.g. Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Rediff, Shaadi.com. Or you've created some amazing and popular sites on your own.
- Are thrilled at the chance to work in a startup environment
- Hail from top universities and are incredibly smart and creative.
Director of Software Development
In addition to the above qualities, candidates applying for this position should:
- Have 5+ years managing a software development team of at least 7 people
- Owned and launched major releases on consumer focused websites
- Demonstrate strong process and management skills to ship quality software in a timely and regular manner
- Be exceptionally well versed in web technology architectures including SQL, AJAX, ASPX/PERL, SMS services, CSS, and Jscript.
Interaction/Web Designer
We seek a great, independent interaction and web designer with:
- A keen sense of design - you should know how to make a modern, cool website that can appeal to the most internet savvy users. Some examples we like: craigslist.org, zune.net, flock.com.
- High degree of user empathy and skills in interaction design
- A great protofolio and a love for making beautiful pictures on computers
- Experience in photoshop a must, ideally you are also proficient in Jscript, AJAX and css (we love those subtle but helpful HTML-only animations!)
Internships
We are taking applications for 6 to 12 month long internships from Computer Science students, graduate students in economics, development, informal sector labor, etc. and MBA candidates who wish to work at our offices in Bangalore. Given our small size, candidates should expect to drive significant projects with great impact on the company. Accommodation and round-trip airfare to India will be provided to candidates along with a stipend.
